Vibration White Finger
This a condition which affects workers who are involved in the continous use of vibratory, rotating or percussive hand machinery. The main problem is damage to circulation in the fingers, hands and arms but there may also be bone, joint or nerve damage. The condition is one form of Raynaud's Disease.
Vibration White Finger (VWF) symptoms usually start with tingling and numbness in the fingers after use of the machinery. The fingers may also temporarily ache and turn white. Initially one finger may be involved but as the condition progresses the problem will occur more frequently and other fingers will become affected. If several fingers are affected and turn white it may not be possible to reverse the damage.
Vibration White Finger is usually painful and may lead to loss of sensation. The symptoms are frequently worse in cold weather.
