Supermarket Accident

It will not be wrong to say that a supermarket is something of a very modern phenomenon. With a large number of stores belonging to every single retail chain, millions of people regularly shop in supermarkets in UK. With such a large number of people moving through the supermarket checkouts every day, it is not surprising to know that over 20,000 customers suffer from injuries while shopping in the supermarkets. This statistics is only a minor percentage of the accidents happening in supermarkets because larger stores do not allow such accidents to be publicised. Apart from that, a large number of accidents go unreported only because the victims of the accidents are too embarrassed or ignorant to report to the manager or take it to the court.

A supermarket accident is usually caused by the people slipping on debris or other products such as fruits lying on the floor. Most of these supermarkets have tiled floors and thus they are very hazardous, especially when wet. Most of the people injured in supermarket accidents have been a victim of careless practices carried on inside the supermarket where spillages lay unattended and no warning signs are used.

It is the responsibility of the supermarket manager to ensure that the customers are given a safe environment to shop in and that any hazardous elements are quickly identified and taken care of. Obstacles, breakages, spillages and obstructions should be dealt with so that no risks of injuries are sustained by the shoppers. Many supermarkets even operate aisle inspection programs which involve rigorous inspection of aisles at standard intervals of time, several times during a day. Staff members are supposed to report any hazards to the authorities and deal with them as soon as possible. While these duties are time as well as money consuming, they are entirely in the interests of the public and are justified.

If you have been injured in a supermarket due to no fault of your own but because of the ignorance or negligence of the staff members in the supermarket, you have all the legal and civil right to make a compensation claim against the supermarket. There are several legal solicitors who specialise in dealing with a supermarket accident and ensuring that their clients get adequate compensation. However, the compensation amount that they receive largely depends upon the extent of your injuries, the expenses you had to bear due to the injuries and how efficiently you convince the court that you were not at fault but the supermarket owners were.

Pedestrian run over by car
Mrs K was knocked over by a car that mounted the pavement, fracturing her tibia. Following extensive medical investigations organised by Cooks, it transpired that the accident brought forward the need for a knee replacement operation in the next 5-10 years. Cooks settled Mrs K’s claim for £28,750.00 she said:
"I am very pleased with the service I have received and would recommend Cookss to my friends. My claim was handled in a very professional manner and I was kept informed of it’s progress. Everyone I met or spoke to was helpful and considerate and I felt confident in their abilities. This was important to me at the time of my accident and later."
