Wayne Logie, a schoolboy from Fife is mounting a personal injury claim against Fife Council after an accident in class has resulted in permanent damage to his eyesight.
He suffered permanent eye damage when a beaker shattered during a chemistry experiment at a Fife School in February 2003. Although he and his fellow pupils had been provided with safety glasses, they had no side protection and a piece of flying glass damaged his cornea. Suing Fife Council for £200,000, the accident has left the schoolboy in need of glasses and prevented him from pursuing any career that requires unhampered, three-dimensional vision.
Fife Council has denied that staff at the school were negligent and has stated that Wayne had been provided safety glasses with adequate protection.
