Rescue workers had to battle through a heard of cattle after a farm worker was crushed by a cow.

The man suffered severe personal injuries in the accident at work and was pronounced dead at the scene after being trampled by one of the cows he was attending at a farm near Banff in Scotland.

A female motorist who witnessed the agricultural accident raised the alarm and an ambulance crew was sent to the farm.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said, "We received a report of a man being crushed by a cow. We then dispatched an ambulance and air ambulance.

"The road crew arrived first but couldn't get near the man because the animals were blocking their way."

Commenting of the farming accident, a spokesperson for Grampian Police said, "Inquires are ongoing into the circumstances of the incident and the Health and Safety Executive has been notified.

The HSE added, "We are aware of reports of an industrial accident and two inspectors are visiting the site. It appears that man may have been trampled by livestock."

An investigation is continuing into the farming accident at work.
