Carpal tunnel syndrome

This condition is a repetitive strain type injury affecting the carpal tunnel in the wrist. It occurs when the median nerve passing through the tunnel from the forearm to the hand becomes squeezed or pressed against the side of the tunnel, usually due to swelling of tendons in the tunnel.

Typical symptoms are tingling/pins and needles in the fingers and thumb, numbness, cold hands, aching and pain in the hand and often up into the arm. The symptoms may be noticeable when carrying out routine everyday activities which involve using the wrist and may make some activities difficult.

The condition can occur from problems in the body but is often caused by prolonged or frequent repetitive movement. This may be from domestic activities but it can also be work related and has become increasingly common in office workers due to the large increase in the use of computer keyboards.

Where the condition is caused by work activities there may be a claim for compensation against the employer if it can be shown the appropriate measures to prevent the problem have not been taken.

If you are suffering from this condition due to your work and would like to know whether you may be entitled to compensation, please complete the Application Form and we will provide a Free Legal Assessment of your claim. We will handle your claim on a No Win No Fee basis at no cost to you.
