See a doctor or go to hospital (if the injury is serious enough) to make sure the injury is recorded
If you or someone else is injured you must report the accident to the police as soon as possible
Get the names of any witnesses to the accident
Write down yourself what happened so when asked to say later you can look back at your own notes
Inform your insurance company of the accident
Take photos of the damage to your vehicle
See a solicitor
Don't accept any offer without seeing your own solicitor first
Don't be tempted to use a solicitor offered to you by the other driver's insurance company (it happens a lot) . If you were getting a divorce you would not let your wife chose your solicitor to fight the case against her for very obvious reasons. The same reasons apply in RTA claims
Useful info about car accidents
Car accident claims are usually the easiest claims . If someone runs in the back of your car whilst you are awaiting the traffic lights to change it is obvious who is to blame. Even if the other driver drives off and cannot be traced or is uninsured you can still make a claim as long as the accident was the other driver's fault.
